| F J Bartlett | Pte Worcs R | Frederick John was the son of James and Alice Bartlett of Lynchurst, Hampshire, being born in 1899. He served in the Worcestershire Regiment as Pte 51194. Frederick died of wounds on 30 May 1918 aged 19 and is remembered on the Soissons Memorial |
| H P Bloomfield | Pte Wilts R | Harry Philip Bloomfield was born in 1897, the son of George and Harriet of Lyndhurst. He served in the Wiltshire Regiment as Pte 21390. He was born in Lyndhurst and enlisted in nearby Brockinghurst. Harry died of wounds on 24 March 1918 aged 21 and he rests in Guise (La Desolation) French National Cemetery, Flavigny-le-Petit, nr the town of St Quentin. |
| W A C Bowden Smith | Capt R Fus | Walter Adrian Carnegie Bowden Smith was born in 1881, the son of Walter Baird Bowden Smith and his wife Julia Wiggett Humphreys whom he married in 1880. Walter served as a Captain in the Royal Fusiliers and died of wounds on 28 August 1914 and he rests in Cement House Cemetery, nr Langemark, Belgium along with over 3500 others who have been laid to rest or commemorated. |

Lt Black Watch | Charles Lindsay Claude Bowes-Lyon was born in September 1885, in the Luton Registration District, the son of Hon. Francis Bowes-Lyon and Lady Anne Catherine Sybil Lindsay (Charles was grandson of Claude, 13th Earl of Strathmore) . He attended Eton College along with other from the Bowes-Lyon family. During his stay he was in the House of R W White-Thomson and left in 1903, leaving in 1904. One of his brothers also attended Eton. He later studied at the Royal College of Science and became a Member of the Inst. C. E. He joined the Forfarshire and Kincardine Militia Artilliery in 1906 and in 1910 was gazetted into the 3rd Btn (Special Reserves) of the Black Watch. His brothers were also in that regiment. He served in India and on returning home in 1914 via Japan and Canada that he was one of the few survivors of the Empress of Ireland. Upon arriving home he was one of the Expecitionary Force to France in 1914. Charles served in many of the memorable battle around Ypres, being wounded twice. After 3 days incessant fighting from the 20th October, He was KIA on 23 October 1914 at Pilken during the attack to recover the lost trenches and rests in the New Irish Farm Cemetery, along with over 1400 identified casualties. There are over 3000 headstones that simply say 'Known only unto God' Empress of Ireland (Utube tribute)

| F C Chislet M.M. | Cpl Som L I | Possibly, F Chislett who was Cpl., 7351 in the Somerset L I. He was the son of Mary and husband of Alice of Hinton St George, Somerset. He died on 24 March 1918 aged 31 and is remembered in the Duisans British Cemetry, Etrun along with over 3000 other Commonwealth Casualties and 88 German casualties. |

| A K Hargreaves D,S,O. | Capt R B | Alan Knyveton Hargreaves born in 1882 and was brother to Leopold (see below). In 1891 Alan and his 2 brothers are living with their parents at Cuffnells Park, Lyndhurst, where their father states he is 38 and living on own means and has 9 staff incl. a Governess. The transcriber of the census has not been too kind and has totally mis-transcribed Knyveton. By 1900 Alan was a serving soldier and a London Gazette entry for 10 August gives his promotion. He was KIA on 9 May 1915 aged 33, the same age as his brother Leopold when he died, and he rests in Le Trou Aid Post Cemetery, Fleurbaix. An entry in the London Gazette for 24 March 1915 tells of him being awarded the D.S.O. |
| L R Hargreaves M.C. | Capt I Gds | Leopold Reginald Hargreaves was the son of Reginald G and Alice of Cuffnells, Lyndhurst. Alice was formerly Liddell, the inspiration for 'Alice' in Alice in Wonderland. Leopold was born in 1883 in Lyndhurst. The 1901 census finds Leopold living on Keats Lane, along with other Eton students, in the house of Arthur Stringer a 59 year old Schoolmaster. He served in the Irish Guards and died on 25 September 1916 aged 33 and is remembered at Guillemont Road Cemetery, Guillemont. His citation reads in the London Gazette reads :- For conspicuous gallantry in action. He set a find example of coolness and courage at a somewhat critical period, and personally took forward and established a covering party. He was not the only officer in the Irish Guards to be mentioned in that issue of the Gazette |

Gyukui enlisted in Brockenhurst, while living at the time in Lyndhurst. He served as Pte 203395 in the Hampshire Regiment and was KIA on 16 August 1917 aged 19. He is remembered as are many others on the Tyne Cot Memorial to the Missing. |

| I Veal | AB R N | Isaac was the son of Joseph anc Frances Veal, born in Lyndhurst in 1875. He served as Able Seaman 164953 onboard HMS Maidstone. He died on 11 April 1918 aged 43 and rests in Lyndhurst along with 7 other casualties who 'rest at home' |
